The concept to feature a cover athlete on ‘The Show’ came after the 2005 season of MLB. And It was David Ortiz of the Red Sox who first got featured as the cover athlete of the baseball video game. Since then, it has become a kind of tradition. Every year, the game developers choose a cover athlete to represent their games.
Notably, the Red Sox players have appeared three times on the MLB The Show covers, most appearances by a single team. Whereas, Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins have also had their players featured on the cover of the baseball video game two times each.
