On January 16th, 2017, in the last week of his presidency, Obama welcomed the Chicago Cubs into the White House and celebrated their World Series win with the players and support staff.

Notably, whichever team wins the World Series gets an opportunity to visit the White House and celebrate the victory with the President. Despite his preference, President Obama was kind enough to host the Cubs. Knowing that he had only four days left of his presidency and the start of the new season was still over two months away, he celebrated with the Cubs.

Well, it’s no secret that former US President Barack Obama is a die-hard fan of Chicago White Sox. Sadly, he could not help but celebrate the rival team’s victory. Especially when the Cubs won their first World Series in the last 108 years, ending the title drought at Chicago. The Cubs had defeated the Cleveland Indians in November 2016, to lift their World Series trophy.

“I will say to the Cubs, it took you long enough… I made a lot of promises in 2008. We’ve managed to fulfill a large number of them, but even I was not crazy enough to suggest that during these eight years we would see the Cubs win the World Series. Even though it will be hard for me to wear a Cubs jersey, do know that among Sox fans I am the Cubs number fan.” said Obama.

This was the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Since then Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves have won the World Series from 2017 to 2021, respectively.
