Shericka Jackson is one of the fastest women on the planet. She came agonizingly close to breaking Florence Griffith Joyner’s longstanding record in the 200m during the World Championships in Budapest. Jackson ran the distance in 21.41 seconds, falling just 0.07 seconds short of the all-time record. With the season concluded and a prestigious award potentially on the horizon, she enjoyed a little break from preparation for the next.
That break saw her at a favored tourist destination in her homeland. Shericka Jackson was at the Chill Pops Gourmet Paletas in Ocho Rios, Island Village. The franchise is known best for the popsicles on the menu. Jackson made sure to enjoy one of them while she was there.

Shericka Jackson shared a story on Instagram prominently featuring the same venue. One collage in it saw images of her posing by the dessert stand, a popsicle in her hand, and a fan standing with her, with a video playing in the background. The caption of the collage went thus, “The ultimate spot in Ocho Rios, Island Village. Chill Pops was the vibe. Mango Passion is the plug. @chillpopsjamaica.”
Aside from the popsicle, the sprinter will have more to enjoy soon enough, possibly. Shericka Jackson has been shortlisted for the Women’s World Athlete of the Year award. She and ten other athletes were nominated for that award, with the list being winnowed down further after a round of voting. As it stands, she is one of five finalists in contention to win it. The others are Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa, Holland’s Femke Bol, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, and Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas. Jackson’s recognition on that platform is justified given the season she had.

Shericka Jackson will have one eye on the 2024 Paris Olympics. She will look to make another splash after defending her 200m title in Budapest, in some style. Jackson has only one Olympic gold in her trophy cabinet. That came via the 4X100m relay in Tokyo. It remains to be seen if she can transfer her form from this season to the Olympic arena next summer.
