The talented Sha’Carri Richardson is already a phenomenon within the athletics fraternity. She set the sixth-fastest time in the women’s 100-meter competition. However, due to the use of marijuana, she failed a doping test. Hence, she couldn’t take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Although a controversial character on and off the track, she captures the attention of people with her brilliant display.

This made the famous British filmmaker Bafic capture her moments during the Olympics Trials in 2021. Along with the late fashion expert Virgil Abloh and his creative studio, Architecture Films, he created a fascinating piece. Co-founded by Mahfuz and Chloe Sultan, the latter compared her influence to be the same as Michael Jordan.
Comparisons to Michael Jordan
Being compared to the greatest basketball player of all time raises a few eyebrows. However, Richardson’s story was unique, according to the filmmakers. Significantly, The New Yorker’s digital platform, backed by Nike, saw fans getting an in-depth view of her life. Thus, one co-founder Chloe Sultan spoke about what made her make the short film.

We learned about Sha?Carri a few months before the Olympic trials, and Virgil, Mahfuz, Bafic, and I all had this obsession with athletes doing incredible, seemingly impossible feats, as well as their relationship to artistic innovation. Can Sha’Carri Richardson prove her metal at the 2024 Paris Olympics?
Despite being the fastest woman on the track, she failed a doping test that crushed her dreams of appearing in the Tokyo Olympics. The United States Anti-Doping agency banned her for a month, which meant she couldn’t take part in the event. The documentary has some brilliant shots leading to the race, the race itself, and the moments after her race.

The 2022 Athletics World Championships will see Richardson returning to Oregon, a track filled with memories. With a stunning documentary in her bag, Richardson would hope to win some medals. So far, it has been an eventful journey for the talented sprinter.
