The 2021 athletics season proved to be a hard year for talented sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. She started it off brilliantly by setting the sixth-fastest time in the world, but then faded away. A failed doping test crushed her 2020 Tokyo Olympics dreams. Hence, she now looks determined to make amends. In the meantime, former legendary sprinter, Carl Lewis talked about Richardson’s sprinting style and gave his inputs.

Fining some tunes would help her achieve greatness ahead of the 2022 World Athletics Championships. With Thompson-Herah and Fraser-Pryce as tough competitors, she has a lot to prove. Certainly, Lewis’ advice might help her do the same.
Carl Lewis advises Sha’Carri Richardson
Lewis is a nine-time Olympic gold medalist and has won the long jump event for four consecutive Olympic Games. Hence, giving fruitful advice to a young wonder kid would surely help her improve her game. Watching a clip of Richardson’s 200-meter race, Lewis spotted the speed at which she runs the curves.
While other athletes look to slow down in a bid to finish strongly, Richardson is full steam ahead. She uses that momentum off the curve to end the race incredibly well. Although the other athletes try to catch her at the end, Richardson has enough momentum to finish strong.
Out of all the other aspects on which they analyze, Lewis spoke about his running philosophy of ‘thumb to the eye and elbow to the sky’. By judging her sprinting technique, Lewis is happy that she follows a similar routine as it helps her to spring past her opponents. Finally, he talked about preparing for the 100-meters race by training for the 200-meters event.
“It’s all the same thing. It’s just spreading it out like in the 60 meters, you want to accelerate, basically to 40 and hold it to the end. And the 100-meters, you wanna accelerate to 60, the 200-meters you want to take it to 120. So it’s the same rhythm but just it’s like the same script but a different cast basically what it is. So that 200, I think the biggest issue for her is creating confidence and winning races because it feels a lot better when you’re winning races than when you’re not winning the races,” said Lewis.

Can Richardson have a better year?
With a world-class athlete offering her support, Richardson’s mindset would be key. Setting a time of 10.72 for the 100-meters (the sixth-fastest time in the world), she shocked many fans in attendance in Miami. But, her form did not improve after that.
Thus, the 2022 athletics season would be an important one for her to get back to her best. Regaining her focus and putting the negativity behind her will be the key to her success. Will 2022 finally be the year that Sha’Carri Richardson proves why she is the best?
