The Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 has a week left to go. However, for the legendary Japanese figure skater, Yuzuru Hanyu, his third Olympics ended unceremoniously.
The two-time gold medalist was unable to win a historic third consecutive gold. Apparently, it was majorly because of an elusive figure skating jump that nobody has ever been able to land successfully.
Despite finishing fourth and not getting a medal, Yuzuru Hanyu certainly won the hearts of people all around the world. In fact, Sui Ishida, the creator of the popular anime series Tokyo Ghoul, has honored Hanyu with his artwork.

Yuzuru Hanyu had been the gold medalist two times consecutively at the 2014 and 2018 Olympics in figure skating. However, this time, in what could have been his third gold medal in a row, Hanyu was set on dazzling the world.
Thus, he had announced that he would successfully land the quadruple axel jump, an unprecedented move in figure skating history. Sadly for him, that became his downfall, as he injured his ankle practicing the move.

Furthermore, he failed to land it successfully during his performance as well, falling down twice which lost him a lot of points. Consequently, it was Nathan Chen of the USA who won the gold medal, followed by Yuma Kagiyama and Shoma Uno of Japan on the podium.
Nevertheless, Hanyu has an ardent fan following across the world, and apparently, Sui Ishida is one of them. He took to Twitter to post a hand-made pencil sketch of Hanyu, in the outfit he wore to the Olympics.
“It was cool,” Ishida wrote, expressing his feelings about Hanyu’s performance at the free skate Olympics event.
Nathan Chen lauded Hanyu for attempting the quadruple axel
American figure skater Nathan Chen, who won his first gold medal at the free skate event, was one of the millions of figure skating fans who lauded Yuzuru Hanyu for having attempted the quadruple axel.

Speaking at the post-event conference, Chen stated how he believed another flip to be impossible until a few years ago. However, second runner-up Shoma Uno attempted the quadruple flip at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 successfully.

Chen: A few years back, I didn't think 4F was possible, and [Uno] did it. The 4A attempt today was extremely close – I thought he was going to hit it. It's great to see how Yuzu is pushing the sport forward – it's really special to see #Beijing2022
