It’s finale night for season 33 of Dancing with the Stars, and it’s a three-hour-long extravaganza, packed with performances. Or that’s what the fans thought when they tuned in to what the five remaining couples compete one last time for the mirror ball. However, what they got instead was play-by-play recaps from the judges and interviews that ate up the run time from the get-go.

As excitement turned to annoyance, fans took to social media to voice their grievances. “There is a noticeable lack of dancing during the first 20 minutes of a 3-hour-long episode of Dancing With The Stars. We don’t need to recap the entire season. We were there. Let me see some pros dancing,” complained one fan who has been keeping up with the show.

While DWST has been a popular show for decades, this year the Olympians have helped the show get better viewership. Two-time Olympic bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik and his partner Rylee Arnold, alongside fellow bronze medalist Ilona Maher and her mentor Alan Bersten, have brought new fans. 4.97 million people tuned in to watch the season 33 debut.

Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures reported a slight uptick from last year’s debut. Hence, it was no surprise that fans who have been following the show didn’t need a recap. “Me tuning into Dancing with the Stars finale to watch the opening number only to find Carrie Ann doing a play-by-play of past performances,” posted another fan accompanied by an angry emoji.

Thanks to the Olympians, participants such as Danny Amendola have also fostered their own following as the underdogs of the show. While the internet has fallen in love with the evolution of Ilona Maher and Stephen Nedoroscik as dancers, many are also cheering for Amendola in the finale. And finally, there’s one more factor that’s made the audience even more impatient.

Why the fans can’t wait for their favorites to perform

On November 23, DWTS revealed which songs the competitors chose for the redemption and the freestyle round. The fans of the show loved almost every song that the five pairs chose, and the anticipation had been building for the better part of a week. Hence, many thought, “these judge recap packages of each couple on Dancing with the Stars is just unnecessary.”

Others resorted to sarcasm to air their frustration. “Has someone informed the producers that this show is called DANCING with the stars and not recapping with the stars?” posted another X-user. However, the netizens were right to be excited about the dance performances. Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold blew away judges and the audience with their performance on the famous F.R.I.E.N.D.S theme, I’ll be There for You by The Rembrandts.

“29 out of 30 for the Redemption Round! Stephen and Rylee bringing the heat!” Gymnastics News revealed the scores on what may be Nedoroscik and Rylee’s best performance so far. However, the prolonged recap wasn’t an issue for some as they ran into a different problem.

“Dancing with the Stars and @DisneyPlus need to be better bout their ‘live stream’ cuz why is it only live on the East Coast? I gotta sit here in California and watch Twitter for updates and spoilers of the finale,” commented on Netizen. Thankfully, with the recap section of the show over and the competitors dropping exceptional performances, the DWTS finale is now in full swing.
