The 58th edition of the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is in full flow in Levi. The event kickstarted yesterday with the giant slalom event, and Mikaela Shiffrin was one of the favorites to take home the gold. Although the event is still going on, the legendary American alpine skier Shiffrin has revealed her patriotic self in a recent Instagram update.
While Shiffrin is currently participating in her 13th World Cup event, the 28-year-old will be looking to get closer to 100 wins. Apart from alpine skiing, Mikaela Shiffrin is a patriot as well and recently paid tribute to America’s 10th Mountain Division. This 10th Mountain Division holds significant importance in America’s history, the American skiing arena in particular.

Mikaela Shiffrin is a living legend in alpine skiing. With 88 World Cup wins, she is currently looking for her 100th career win at Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2023-24. Apart from her sporting brilliance, the 7x Skiing World Champion is a great human being as well and has expressed her gratitude towards American veterans.

Despite the fact that Shiffrin is currently performing back-to-back runs at the Alpine Ski World Cup, she posted a heartfelt tribute to America’s 10th Mountain Division. In her latest Instagram story, Shiffrin reposted the US Ski team’s post in remembrance of the division. Captioning the story, she wrote, “Thank you.???. #veterans day”. Veterans Day is celebrated each year on 11th November.
The 10th Mountain Division is a group of American soldiers who emerged during World War II. The group was trained to fight in the snowy mountains. These veterans later played a very crucial part in creating a number of ski resorts. While these veterans will always be remembered and should be, Mikael Shiffrin’s journey at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup isn’t going well as of now.

American alpine skier receives setback at Alpine Ski World Cup
The Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2023-24 is taking place in full flow in Levi. Mikaela Shiffrin was deemed to be a favorite in the giant slalom event. However, the 28-year-old’s chances soon took a hit after a training collision hurt her knee. Though Shiffrin recovered well before the race, her performance wasn’t enough to secure a podium finish.

Shiffrin was outrun by the Slovakian skier Petra Vlhova in both runs. Vlhova finished at the top in the overall rankings securing gold, while Shiffrin settled with a 4th place finish. The event is still going on, and Shiffrin would be looking to redeem herself in her next run.
