Angel Reese shocked by Chicago snow—Is she ready for Midwest winters like Lindsey Vonn suggests?

For the residents of Chicago, experiencing snowfall in the winter is nothing out of the ordinary. However, their WNBA team member, Angel Reese, was taken aback when she saw snow outside her window. The 22-year-old even took to X to post about just how stunned she felt and how she wanted to react. However, alpine skiing legend Lindsey Vonn had a slightly warmer welcome.

Angel Reese took to social media on November 21 to share her experience after witnessing snow for, probably, the first time. “Omgeeee it’s snowing in Chicago,” wrote the former LSU Tigers star. Hailing from Baltimore and attending school in Baton Rouge, Bayou-Barbie isn’t accustomed to snow. However, Vonn hinted that it’s time she got used to it.

Welcome to the Midwest! Lindsey Vonn commented on the post. While the Chicago Sky rookie came to the city in April, the warm weather was the least of her concerns. Yet, it’s not until winter that the region flanked by the Appalachian and Rocky Mountain ranges shows its true colors. However, the fact that Reese wasn’t ready for the snow became clear when she wanted to leave.

“Like let me get up outta here,” joked the Chicago rookie, who ended the season with a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per match. Interestingly, this comes just a month after Reese made quite a blunt statement about her contract. The LSU star who signed a four-year, $324,383 contract with the Chicago Sky said she didn’t earn enough to pay her bills.

“I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think that pays one of my bills,” explained the women’s basketball phenom during an Instagram Live session last month. Reese disclosed her salary doesn’t even cover the $8000 monthly rent! However, this wasn’t the first time the former LSU Lady Tigers’ comments have caused a stir.

Rumors of the Chicago Sky power forward getting “fired” flooded the internet in late September. After head coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s dismissal from the team, many speculated that the rookie could follow suit. Thankfully, the possibility didn’t materialize, and now Reese is experiencing her first winter in Chicago. Meanwhile, Lindsey Vonn had the opposite reaction to winter.

Winter 2024 may become one of Lindsey Vonn’s most memorable

The four-time Overall World Cup champion is going into winter 2024 with a massive announcement. Despite battling several serious injuries and subsequent surgeries, Vonn has decided to once again take to the slopes at 40. Four years after her retirement, Vonn is ready to make a comeback in competitive skiing. In fact, the Olympian is currently training after recovering from surgery.

Despite undergoing surgery in April, Lindsey Vonn rediscovered her strength during rehab. “She discovered she could execute leg strengthening drills she had not been able to do for eight years,” reported Mpls.St.Paul Magazine. Excited to test her renewed strength Vonn contacted her former coach Chris Knight and former Alpine Director, Patrick Riml.

For two months the trio tested Vonn’s limits on the slopes, even traveling to Solden which hosted the 2024-25 World Cup season kick-off event. However, with winter the American winter underway, Vonn has returned to the States. She’s not too far away from Reese, in Colorado, training with the U.S. Ski team.

Following fresh snowfall, at least two Colorado resorts opened their doors early this year. So it’s no wonder the U.S. Ski Team and Lindsey Vonn started training on the slopes of the Copper Mountain in Colorado on Saturday, November 16. So it’s safe for Angel Reese and Lindsey Vonn to have two very different experiences.
