Norwegian alpine skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s injury-struck troubles continue. Back in January, he crashed during the World Cup downhill race in Switzerland. A couple of days later, his girlfriend, Mikaela Shiffrin, faced a similar fate. However, the road to recovery was a tad more intricate for Kilde. And as he continued to power back gradually, another bump now deters him from doing so. Unfortunately, as per his latest update, there seems to be a sequel to this already difficult injury chapter for him.
Taking to his Instagram, Kilde added a post stating how his world has come crashing down once again in the past 4 days. Well, steadily increasing load and training more during his shoulder rehab has led him to “struggle with some increased pain in my repaired shoulder over the last couple weeks.”
Making things worse, he is now struck by an infection, which means that for the next 6 weeks, he has to be put on IV antibiotics every day through a PICC line. And the next steps can be revealed just after that. But, through it all, he has Shiffrin by his side. He feels grateful to be surrounded by “incredible, caring, brilliant people both at home and away.” Everything that he has been going through could not demotivate him as he also wrote, “That’s that, quite a bummer, but we keep fighting.”

Earlier in March, Mikaela Shiffrin had opened up about how Kilde was on the receiving end of the stick, a bit too severely than her. Kilde’s dislocated shoulder was “literally blown apart,” per Shiffrin. Amidst this, she traveled to Switzerland to be by his side in the hospital. Nonetheless, she had mentioned how “he’s progressing really well now, starting to walk a bit.” But she admitted, “It’s a long road.”
Kilde and Mikaela Shiffrin were hoping to get back for the 2024–25 season.
Not just his shoulder; Kilde had also sustained a calf laceration. And that had required urgent surgery. Per the Press Herald, Shiffrin later mentioned how it was nearly “a life or death situation for good eight hours with that kind of cut.” Yet they got past it. And some better times awaited them.
