Coping with a family member battling a disease can be difficult for the family. It is especially so when the condition is terminal and without a cure. Recently, Lindsey Vonn opened up about her mother’s diagnosis with such a disease.

The skier shared a heartfelt post on Instagram recently. It was to inform her fans and followers about her mother’s battle with a rare disease. She also spoke about her mother’s courage to fight the condition.
Lindsey Vonn dedicates an inspiring post to her mother
Last year was particularly difficult for Vonn and her family, as her mother, Linda Krohn, was diagnosed with ALS. It is a rare neurological disease that affects the nerve cells controlling the voluntary movement of muscles.
It was a difficult moment for the whole family as the disease is incurable. However, Krohn is staying strong and battling the condition the best she can.
Recently, Vonn shared a post on Instagram to convey the strength and resilience her mother has shown to fight it. The post read, “It’s been a year since my Mom was diagnosed with ALS.”

Indicating the courage her mother has shown since her birth, she continued, “Since having a stroke while giving birth to me, my Mom has been the picture of strength and more specifically, resilience. She has always given me the will to keep fighting back whenever I had an injury or obstacle in skiing and in life.”

“Now she is exuding that resilience more than ever before. There are good days and there are bad days but every day we have with her is a great day,” the three-time Olympic medalist added.
Extending her support for her mother, Vonn further said, “I will do my best to honor her and raise awareness for ALS. We love you Mom and we celebrate you every day.”
Following the post, many fellow athletes, fans, and well-wishers have extended their support to the family. Moreover, the post has garnered over 46k likes within 15 hours.
Vonn considers her mother as her idol
Vonn found her idol in her mother early on. Since then, the athlete has considered her mother her inspiration to fight her own battles. Krohn suffered a stroke while giving birth to the four-time Olympian.
Although she recovered from it, the ordeal left her with a paralyzed left leg, causing her to walk with a limp. It impeded her from performing some daily activities.

However, she did not let this disability dictate who she was. Vonn recalled her mother had supported her at every stage of her life.

And even though Krohn could not attend all her meets physically, she would not miss any of her events as she watched her daughter competing from her laptop screen.
