Alpine skier Lindsey Vonn and tennis star Rodger Federer are making headlines right now. Some updates are endearing love and appreciation, while others are stirring up the internet. Making the most of her post-retirement, the 39-year-old has recently secured her name in the history book again, on account of her Streif performance. But what brewed controversy came hours after her tete-a-tete with Spotify podcaster Dwayne Wade, which included the virtuoso Federer.

Seeking comfort in the 20x Grand Slam champion in upsetting times has always been helpful to Vonn. But when the two skied together for the first time in history, she couldn’t contain her excitement naturally. On her Instagram, she penned a heartfelt note for her idol-turned-friend and claimed him to be her ‘forever GOAT’. That was enough for the internet to lash out.

Her X post reads, “GOAT or greatest of all time is a subjective title”. Though this statement was just what the haters needed to hear, she further said, “People have differences of opinion and that’s OK. My goat might not be your goat….” Her Instagram post caption from a day ago read, “I finally got to ski with my friend Roger… yes, @rogerfederer! Have to take some time to really reflect on what it this means to me”. Matters got worse just right here.

“You and your family are truly one of a kind and no matter what the statistics say (or Leo lol) you’re my forever 🐐”, this statement made fans write “Djokovic has the numbers, so there’s no do7bt he is the GOAT”. Novak Djokovic, the current no.1 in Single’s, was the sole reason for the world to question Vonn’s bold claim.

Vonn deletes post to calm the situation down

When fans tried to confront Vonn with claims like “the only GOATs are @mikaelashiffrin and @djokernole in skiing and tennis”, Lindsey Vonn brought her humility. Replied, “Yes they are for sure and full respect to both. But I don’t classify goats only on statistics alone”. Her version says numbers and status don’t define the GOAT, and many have agreed to her too. But her original X post is nowhere to be seen now.

These controversies is nothing unnatural in the sporting realm, but it may take a toll on the athletes who aren’t adept in handling rough situations. But Vonn, walking in Federer’s philanthropic path, has no fear. Functioning with a couple of surgeries, she has proved herself as an indomitable force time and again.
