Alpine Skiier Lindsey Vonn is yet again mourning the loss of a close one just months after grieving a deeply personal loss. Vonn hasn’t yet made amends with her mother passing away in August 2022, after a year-long battle with ALS. Now, with the demise of another Ski legend, fate has condemned Vonn to go through another cycle of grief and mourning.
Lindsey Vonn recently shared a story on her Instagram, offering her condolences to German Alpine Skii racer Felix Neureuther. Neureuther’s mother, a World Cup champion and double Olympic Gold medallist in 1976 passed away on 4th January 2023. Here’s learning more about the legend and Vonn’s tribute to her.

Rosi Mittermaier–Neureuther, a German Skii legend, died after suffering from a serious illness. The only Slalom and Downhill Gold medal winner from West Germany died after leaving a strong legacy behind. Her husband Christian Neureuther and their son Felix Neureuther have all competed at the Olympics. Vonn, who showed her solidarity with Neureuther and his family during this tough time, also happens to his friend.

Lindsey Vonn wrote in her Instagram story, “Sad to hear the passing of ski legend Rosi Mittermaier. Condolences to my friend @felix_neureuther and the whole family”. The caption was followed with a prayer and broken heart emoji to encapsulate her emotion. Vonn posted a picture of Mittermaier being carried on the shoulders of two women, her arms outstretched with a large smile on her face as if to celebrate a victory.
With the recent turn of events and the tragedy involved, Felix Neureuther is yet to share anything on this matter. However, in his last post from six weeks ago, people commented to show their support and love within the last 24 hours.
Vonn’s tryst with a similar fate and tragedy last year
This sad incident has affected Vonn to the extent of sharing the grief Neureuther must be feeling. Vonn was in a similar position in August last year, when her mother passed away, leaving her heartbroken. It wasn’t the only tragedy, as she had lost her grandmother and her dog Bear the same year.
