Talks ahead of this weekend’s World Cup opening for alpine skiing took an unexpected turn, with Mikaela Shiffrin and boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde speaking up about global warming issues. The argument over the season’s early start illustrates the need to reconsider conventional scheduling. Which caused a foggy buildup on Day 2 of the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup 2023/24.

In addition, the women’s giant slalom yesterday showed a rather unclaimed chance for the American racer. Placing sixth in the ranking, Shiffrin praised the rather phenomenal podium finishers. As the attention shifted to her boyfriend today, the finish was shockingly close to hers. Maybe even more!

How did Mikaela Shiffrin’s boyfriend perform?

The bad weather proved to be a major hurdle for the well-known Norwegian alpine ski racer competing in the World Cup. A video shared by @eurosport on Twitter highlighted a terrible slip leading to a disappointing “did not finish” tag. The caption read, “Not the start to the season Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was looking for. A slip and a DNF in Sölden for the former overall champion.”

Fresh off an incredible 2021–2022 season that set a personal record and total 7 wins, the disappointment had a rather less lifeline. Strictly going by the FIS’s real-time results he was not able to finish the run; however, ranked tenth. Kilde is still expected to make a big comeback in run two of the 2023 season after winning a medal in Super-G and an unexpected silver at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

With gusts as high as 100 km/h finally forced the organizers to cancel the much-anticipated huge race in Sölden.  The decision was made after a protracted delay since the difficult weather circumstances didn’t seem to be getting better. The final arch was quickly dismantled when Adam Zampa finished his round amid the strong wind threatening. Considering how the race ended today, many would agree Mikaela Shiffrin performed far better yesterday!
