In the recent Alpine skiing races, the one phenom we heavily miss watching in action is Lindsey Vonn. The 39-year-old 4x World Cup overall champion has started exploring other avenues even before she called it quits with her skiing career. The third-highest super-ranking skier has collected plenty of accolades and titles throughout her career.
But she has earned more love for her competitive comebacks despite serious setbacks in the wake of injuries. Currently standing with 82 World Cup wins, the former skier could have bagged more if she had the scope. But is there any regret in her heart?

In a Spotify podcast named “The Why with Dwyane Wade“, Vonn was invited to a special episode named “Premium Plus with Lindsey Vonn“. The 39-year-old’s valuable insights have helped several people achieve bigger goals in life. Even Wade couldn’t control his greed to hear from the queen herself. He asked, “Is there anything that you did not accomplish in your sport?” In response, the Olympian said, “I mean there’s obviously the record there’s one guy that had more wins than I did but those records were broken…I did the best I could”. The aforementioned statement brought mild dissatisfaction to the fore, which she had then shared with compatriot Rodger Federer. “I don’t think I could have done more with it than I did so I don’t have any regrets life’s too short for regrets”, she conceded.
The intergenerational factors played here. Vonn shared that had she started now, her track record would have been better. When she skied, ski-related equipment and everything that came along were limited. But now, skiers are better off on grounds of nutrition, and training schedule. Times are changing and athletes are becoming mindful with each passing day. However, Vonn’s surgeries define her even now.

The never-ending will to stay fit
We can never look past the horrors of skiing on account of the wobbly snow-packed slopes. Having fallen at the mouth of a multitude of injuries, Vonn struggles to maintain health, even post-retirement. A few months back, she felt the need to improve her knee mobility. As a result, she underwent osteophytes surgery. “I need to jam my knee and bend it. I do it every day.”

Although thrilling her moves looked during competition days, those weren’t alien to unglamorous outcomes. Years of being victim to the perilous sport, Vonn’s love for skiing is deep-rooted. A while back, gracing one of the most daunting slopes Streif, she became the first woman to attempt the unthinkable. Not only did she enjoy the downhill but also set a standard for the young guns to match.
