Alpine Skiing enthusiasts do not require an introduction to Mikaela Shiffrin. The athlete has proven her mettle enough to become a household name in the sport.

However, the alpine skier did not have a great run at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Notably, Shiffrin experienced the majority of her DNFs at the meet. Moreover, she failed to secure a medal at the individual events.

Mikaela Shiffrin shares post to honor her dad on Father’s Day

At the meet, her best position, in any event, was the downhill, in which she secured the fifth place. However, Shiffrin was not in the best of head space during the time of the meet. The skier had lost her father, Jeff Shiffrin, to an accident early in 2020.

But the athlete was not over the grief of losing her father. She still had to come to terms with the loss of a person with whom she shared a close bond. After her father’s untimely demise, Shiffrin would frequently dedicate entire posts to him.

And even after the conclusion of the Beijing Olympics, Shiffrin shared many posts dedicated to her father. Accordingly, the athlete shared a heartfelt post on Instagram to commemorate the good times they had shared.

The post reads, “Wishing so much for you to still be here to celebrate… and wondering if you know how much we love you… Happy Father’s Day, Dad. Miss you always, love you most.”

The post has captured the attention of other athletes and netizens. People have shared positive comments on her post to show their support for the athlete. Moreover, the post has garnered almost 13k likes in a span of just three hours.

How is the alpine skier coping with the loss?

It’s hard to cope with the loss of a parent. Although they remain in the memory of the person forever, they still feel the need to spend more time together.

But life is not always fair. Although it is difficult to move on, one is forced to live on with the grief. Shiffrin seems to be struggling with something similar. However, the athlete is trying her best to navigate her way through.

Reflecting on the challenging times, she said, “It’s been a long process to get that motivation and actually the feeling of caring back. A lot more good days than bad now, but it’s still difficult.”

But the skier has come a long way since then. She has been able to get past her struggle of competing at meets after losing her father. Although the athlete contemplated quitting the sport at one point, she has dropped the idea since. And now, she is making a comeback to the sport that her father always inspired her to pursue.
