On January 13, Mikaela Shiffrin was glued to the television to watch her boyfriend make waves in another downhill race. However, during the World Cup downhill race in Wengen, Switzerland, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, 31, crashed into the A-net wall at 120 kph and fell near the bottom of the run. On January 18, Aleksander Kilde gave an update about his accident. He shared, “I am thankful there’s no fracture – but I did sustain multiple injuries, including a pretty severe laceration in my calf with some nerve damage that required urgent surgery, and a shoulder dislocation.” The good news is that he’s back in Innsbruck with his parents, but he’s about to undergo surgery for two torn ligaments in his shoulder. He decided not to share any graphic photos of the cut because they might be too graphic for people to handle. The Norwegian Olympic skier, Kilde, also shared his gratitude for the support he’s received, especially from the medical professionals in Bern, Switzerland, and his physiotherapist, Henrik Legernes.

Speaking about his lady love, Mikaela Shiffrin, he said, “Mikaela and her family were with me when I woke up, and I am thankful my mom and dad are here now.” According to the latest update by Mikaela Shiffrin, she also acknowledged Kilde’s strength and the challenges he faced due to the accident and a busy racing schedule and shared, “He has had some very tough, painful, and overwhelming days and needs all of the support that he can get.🙏”

Describing her emotional rollercoaster over nearly 48 hours, which included “watching him get torn apart in Wengen from the TV, then airlifted, rushing with my family to meet @henriklegernes (such a hero during this time) at the hospital while Aleks went straight into surgery…and then finally seeing him as he was waking up hours later” made her “want to burn down the universe. ”

However, she acknowledged Kilde’s strength and kindness through it all, and she also appreciated the support from the medical team and the outpouring of love. She was even seen by his bedside in the hospital and even adorably made sure to feed him and care for him. Even Kilde, touched by her love, shared days ago,
