The 39-year-old posted a carousel of photos from her 85 percent gradient Mausefalle, or Mousetrap descent in the world’s toughest downhill race—Kitzbühel’s Streif, making her the first woman in history to do so. Vonn included a candid photo of her tired father dozing off on the couch in her Instagram story. She captioned the photo, Kitzbühel… that time when my dad fell asleep right before I skied the hardest downhill in the world.

The post caption read, “Missing Kitzbühel this year…but these memories will stay with me forever… from cheering on my teammates 🇺🇸 with my family, to hanging with @schwarzenegger and @akilde in the finish (miss you this year Alex-heal fast!), hanging with the great @asvindal and Franz Klammer, to skiing the Streif last year at night (and my Dad falling asleep at the start of it 🤦🏼‍♀️😂)… it’s one of the greatest ski races in the world!!! Wishing all the competitors lots of luck! XO.”

Joining Vonn was four-time World champion Arnold Schwarzenegger, the duo exchanged heartfelt hugs during the event in Kitzbühel, Austria. They met another downhill champion—last year’s downhill phenom Aleksander Kilde.

In the middle of meeting the notable figures from the skiing and sports industries, Vonn described the experience as “beyond a dream come true.” While recalling the special night, Vonn also wished a fast recovery for Alexander Kilde who suffered serious injuries in the season’s Switzerland’s downfall race.
