On November 23, Mikaela Shiffrin will aim for her 99th victory in the FIS Ski World Cup 2024. In Levi, she secured her 98th win and claimed the 8th reindeer of her career—a remarkable milestone and a significant moment of triumph after her injury in Italy earlier this year. Following her success in the Finnish slalom, Shiffrin will head to the Austrian town of Gurgl to compete in her favorite event, the slalom. If she clinches her 99th victory there, Shiffrin will find herself at a pivotal moment. Why?
After Gurgl, the FIS Ski World Cup will move to Killington, USA, for the Giant Slalom/Slalom edition. Coincidentally, if the American ski racing legend secures a win in Gurgl, she will have the chance to achieve her 100th victory on home soil—a milestone that could make the moment even more special. But before delving into her chances of clinching the win, let’s look at the latest updates on the weather and terrain in this iconic American snow town.

The Kidlington resort didn’t have to break much sweat to earn the positive snow control announcement from FIS. Rather, unlike Gurgl, the largest ski and snowboard resort in Eastern North America held the nerve while maintaining the true nature of the slopes. The wrath of nature had been at the corner for the destination as well. However, the mindful use of technology paved the way for the resort to receive permission from the FIS. How? Mike Solimano described the process.
Being the Killington president and CEO of the resort, Solimano had the chance to watch the entire process closely. However, he disclosed a few parts regarding the methods to keep the slopes suitable for the Ski World Cup 2024. Initially, he admitted to employing 125 snowmaking guns to keep the snow density in check. Also, he elaborated, “We were able to take advantage of our fleet of new low-energy snow guns and the new fan guns installed this summer to pull off this feat, and I can’t wait for the best athletes in the world to join us for an incredible weekend of ski racing action.” The result is in front of everyone’s eyes as Killington Ski Resort is on the way to host the races from November 30 to December 1 this year.

Lying in the center of the Green Mountains in Vermont, Killington Resort has been known as “The Beast of the East.”The Killington region boasts over 200 trails and 92 miles of snow sports terrain, making it a paradise for fans. However, everything here comes with its challenges. While the slopes are alluring, Killington’s six peaks feature varying terrain heights, requiring extra caution. As a result, safety measures have always been a top priority. During the FIS Ski World Cup, officials will maintain strict oversight of these precautions. Additionally, the resort authority enforces a detailed list of regulations to outline the do’s and don’ts on the slopes.

The authority calls it Your Responsibility Code. It includes notions like, “Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects. People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them. Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic. Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail. You must prevent runaway equipment. Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.” Furthermore, the Killington Resort has strictly banned the consumption of alcohol or drugs for the ski racers in the region. The regulations will be active in the FIS Ski World Cup 2024 as well.
