Alpine skiing great Mikaela Shiffrin will return with her A-game at the giant slalom event this weekend. Recently, the 28-year-old had secured her 90th World Cup win, which also marks her 55th slalom WC title. Also, this win was her 6th slalom win in Killington. Now, as the Olympian maintains her winning streak, she also needs guidance.
The Canadian home favorite Valerie Grenier would race in the Mont-Tremblant GS alongside the GOAT. Being a Canada favorite, she has more eyes on her this time. In early 2023, Grenier secured her first World Cup win, that too in GS itself. Now, as two alpine skiing greats share screen, the conversation included a cry for help.

Before the Tremblant event kickstarted, it was not unusual for the athletes to appear in a press conference. In such a setting, Grenier probably asked Shiffrin to provide guidelines for clinching back-to-back podiums. According to her Shiffrin’s Insta story, she surprisingly responded, saying, “I actually haven’t given her any tips at this point. But for what she just said, maybe I need tips.”
Though the reply sounded strange, the latter part of her statement was proof that she had a strong take on this. “Anytime you see somebody on the World Cup with insanely good skiing and such a strong mentality like Val….for me it’s kind of heartwarming.” She also added that these phenomenal athletes remind her of herself.

Olympian Grenier is also prepared to shred down the hill this time. The sole reason behind this is her childhood, when she spent her time in the Tremblant condo her grandparents owned. “It means everything. It’s honestly a dream come true,“ the 27-year-old had said while talking about the GS event. But there’s more to the Olympian’s story that is deep-rooted in her family.
Grenier said, “He’s very excited, he’s telling everyone about it,” mentioning her grandfather. “He went skiing with my mom the other day, and apparently every time they were going up the gondola he would tell everyone that I’m his granddaughter and he’s so excited to watch the race.” She further added that the child who tumbled every 15secs received the maximum support from her grandpa.
