Mikaela Shiffrin, the most decorated alpine skier is on a unrelenting chase of the World Cup wins and made her recent stop at Lienz, Austria. Claiming another victory, Shiffrin won the giant slalom for the 22nd time and won her 92nd World Cup title. Even so, Shiffrin acknowledged that the course in Lienz slopes remains the toughest, and showed humility when cheering for her peers. Mikaela Shiffrin turns contingent cheerleader at Giant Slalom
Shiffrin’s triumph was not the only highlight posted by the U.S. Ski Team, as Paula Moltzan proved her mettle in today’s giant slalom, placing at the 16th spot. However, since she performed before Shiffrin, the two-time Olympian re-shared the Instagram story of Paula posted by the U.S. Ski Team on Instagram showing her support.

Shiffrin also showed her support for her fellow countryman AJ Hurt by taking a time to cheer on him. Hurt finished an outstanding 11th position advancing from 16th place after the first run. Later, Shiffrin impressed the Austrian audience as she sliced through every corner during her second run under the sun lit slopes, after losing some of her lead from the first leg. Shiffrin won by 0.38 seconds over Federica Brignone, who came in second. Third-place finisher Sara Hector of Sweden completed the podium.

The victory flashback
Shiffrin made a stunning comeback to the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup GS circuit creating a remake of her first win at Lienz. Following the downhill and combined events being postponed in Val d’Isère due to bad weather, Mikaela won at Austrian Dolomites for the first time just few points behind Federica Brignone, 2019’s GS crystal globe champion on 28 December, 2019. The same day!

Recalling the memory today, she stated, “I know from the experience that you have to be really aggressive on this hill, but it’s quite challenging with the darkness and quite a lot of terrain.” For the winningest skier in the world, reliving triumphs on the same slopes only reflects her legacy, which continues to grow strong!
