Competing Against Lebron James, Max Verstappen, and Novak Djokovic, Mikaela Shiffrin’s Skeptical ESPY Approach Raises Concern Among Fans: “How Can You Not Win?”

The ESPY (Excellence In Sports Performance Yearly Award) ceremony has been announced to be held on 12th July 2023. The 31st ESPY annual ceremony will be taking place in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Some elite athletes from the multiverse of sports have been nominated in different categories. Mikaela Shiffrin, the best alpine skier of all time in history, has also been nominated in two categories. 

Despite being the best alpine skier of all time, Mikaela Shiffrin was seen as nervous about the award function. She recently posted a video on her social media, expressing her pre-award ceremony jim-jams. Mikaela is nominated in the category with other sports legends from various sports, like Lebron James, Verstappen, and Djokovic, and now feels nervous about it. But her fan’s cheers could not let her spirit go down and boosted her up for the award show. 

The biggest ESPYs awards and Shiffrin’s crippling anxiety 

Mikaela Shiffrin has been nominated for two different categories in the 2023 ESPY Awards. Shiffrin has made it to her third career nomination for Best Athletes in Women’s Sport. She shared it with Sophia Smith (Portland Thorns), Iga Swiatek (tennis), and Aja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces). And besides the female category, Shiffrin has also been nominated for Best Record-Breaking Performance for her record-breaking 87th World Cup victory. This category involves the GOATS of sports, such as Novak Djokovic for his 23rd Grand Slam win, Lebron James for surpassing Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA score record, and Max Verstappen for breaking the record in Mexican Grand Prix. 

After being nominated with such star athletes, Mikaela Shiffrin expressed her nervousness saying, “That recognition itself is amazing, but these events, in my own experience, I’ve never won, and I really don’t expect to win.”  “And it is also being nominated in the category with Djokovic, Max Verstappen, and Oh My Ghosh! Lebron James,” she added. But Shiffrin fans’ did not let her down, and they motivated her with heartwarming comments.

After her video was posted on Instagram, fans across the world gathered up to jazz up Shiffrin. One user said, “How can you not win? What you do in your sport has never been done before.” Another user expressed their joy seeing Mikaela in the category, saying, “You deserve it more than anyone in the world ever in the history of the world. You have class and grace too. You are what the award is there for!” “I vote for you @mikaelashiffrin, you are the best” Fans have also started voting for her. A user from Italy says, “Sei grande e Bella ”(big and beautiful. “You are the winner no matter what.”. Many more comments of enlivenment comments were seen on Mikaela Shiffrin’s video.
