On Saturday, Aleksander Kilde flew to hit the safety net before finishing his Downhill race at Lauberhorn. The incident was followed by a quick airlift, hospitalization, and an immediate surgery. Through the horrifying process of it all, Mikaela Shiffrin held onto her heart until she could watch Kilde awake. “Every second with you has me breathing for days,” the 2-time Olympic medalist wrote on Instagram for her beau. The skiing icon further described the process and expressed wanting to “burn down the universe,” for everything that went down.

Stating, “I can’t even put into words how much joy and energy Aleks brings into my life,” Mikaela Shiffrin revealed that she needed to make the best of her participation on the 16th if she were away from Aleksander. And proud she did the man winning a 94th career title and extending her record. What hit it right among the audience next to the post and the win was Shiffrin’s only thought of giving Aleks a call upon completing her race. The events all bundled up were followed by a warming response from the spectators.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s post by her and further by the fans in the comments was a trail of tearful moments. “Brb crying,” fellow skiing star, Bella Wright added initially. The comment was further followed by another sharing a similar emotion. “GOOSEBUMPS. All the best for you 2!! You are amazing Mika,” it read. While one of the fans wrote, “We’re sending you and Aleks so much love!”.
