Day 3 of the 2023 US Open Swimming Championships has commenced on a great note. First Torri Huske made a new meet record in the 100m butterfly event, and now, Siobhan Haughey took the reigns in the 200m freestyle by defeating Katie Ledecky.

Haughey stunned the spectators while she gracefully made her way toward the finish. Haughey cruised her way to grab the title of the 200m freestyle by leaving behind some of the top-notch swimmers, including Katie Ledecky.

The US Open meet witnessed some brilliant performances from the participants. While some surpassed previous meet records to make the new ones, others clinched the victory with their incredible performances. On the same note, as day 3 advanced, Siobhan Haughey made it to the spotlight through her incredible winning spree in the 200m freestyle. She not only clinched the triumph but also trounced Katie Ledecky to bag the number 1 spot.

Haughey dominated the roster with a score of 1:54.20, and Ledecky stood in second place with a time of 1:56.29. In the third position was Simone Manuel with a score of 1:57.37.

After two days of performance at the US Open meet, Haughey had her sight on the win. This is not the first time Haughey has stunned the spectators with her performance, she did the same during the 2023 Asian Games. Not just defeating Ledecky, she has also been successful in surpassing the records of Cate Campbell and now has sights on Sarah Sjostrom’s world record.

Siobhan Haughey has showcased her brilliance in the 2023 swimming World Cup. She broke two records which were created by legendary prodigies at a World Cup meet in Berlin. She broke the 100-meter freestyle record created by Cate Campbell in 2019. Haughey broke her record of 52.34 by cruising to grab the title in a timeframe of 52.02 seconds.

After a week of clinching gold in Hangzhou with an Asian record of 52.17, she lowered it by more than a tenth of a second, pushing herself towards the goal of breaking Sarah Sjostorom’s world record of 51.71 which was set by her in 2017. After winning this, she stated, “It wasn’t the best time for me in the 100 Freestyle, so this was a good surprise. My goal is to get faster every stop, who knows, maybe by the end of the series I will swim a 51“.

This win against Katie Ledecky is another legendary win for her. The eyes of her admirers are now on her performance at the Paris Olympics.
