A 2x Mr. Universe and legendary bodybuilder must have had the perfect bodybuilding career, right? Well not exactly. Lou Ferrigno once opened up about his biggest regret of not being able to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also talked about the decisions he took at that time along with the struggles of being by himself.

Prior to his Mr. Universe titles, Ferrigno won his first major award, the IFBB Mr. America title in 1969. And of course, we all loved ‘The Hulk’, didn’t we? Let’s find out how the icon dealt with the regrets and struggles of his career.

Lou Ferrigno’s biggest regret.

In an Interview with Muscular Development Magazine, the retired professional revealed, “My only regret that I was planning hopes to reach my full potential and to beat Arnold because he’s five years older than me but I never had the chance”. Although he deemed Schwarzenegger as his ultimate competitor, the two remained friends and also assisted each other while training for several Mr. Olympia competitions.

“I was a different person back then. I had a difficult relationship with my father”, Lou admitted. Ferrigno claimed that he trained for only nine weeks prior to the Olympia of South Africa because apparently, he was more interested in doing the film, ‘The Incredible Hulk’.

The 6’5″ star also featured in the sports documentary, Pumping Iron (1977) in addition to the widely acclaimed Hulk series. Moreover, the American bodybuilder-actor was ahead of his time and was widely loved for his passionate efforts and determination. 

Louis Ferrigno retired only professionally

The Hulk actor might have retired from bodybuilding in professional terms, but presently still prioritizes his love for the sport as he appears shredded in one of his recent Instagram posts. Reportedly, the now 71-year-old Ferrigno still trains. He shed light on the fact that he was able to achieve success in the span of his career only because of his consistent efforts and strict routines.

“I’ve been training for 58 years…”, Ferrigno’s caption stated. Evidently, his results are explicit even at an age when most would only dream of it. He shocked the sports world with his ripped physique, and continues to remain the ultimate hulk. Additionally, he wrote, “Proud to still be able to maintain my physique by staying dedicated at almost 71 years old!”
