In episode 4 of the Netflix series ‘The Legend of Bruce Lee’, Bruce Lee is seen training under Master Ip. His master was observing his training with his senior. In the meantime, he also spoke a lot of words that led to the uniqueness of Lee’s fighting style.
Master Ip Man’s advice to Bruce Lee
Master Ip had a different plan for Bruce Lee. As seen in the series, the way he saw Lee was very different from any other Kung Fu trainee there. The potential that Lee had was directly noticed by Ip Man.
?We?re training for fights, not for showing off. Pay attention to the distance between you and your opponent, then you?ll be successful at attacking others and defending yourself,? Master Ip can be seen saying in the Netflix series.? Master Ip had a pretty unique style of training his disciples. For Lee, he preferred to learn advanced things, although Master initially denied it and made him learn the basics. That made Lee mad, but he had no other option but to train according to him. Little did he realize that Master Ip was only attempting to train him in a different manner because only Lee was capable of doing so.
Master Ip always preferred defense over offense, which was later learned by Lee. He quickly adapted to Master Ip’s techniques, which surprised him as well. According to the series, Master Ip was also impressed that Lee learned some tricks from Kung Fu books.

Just like his master, Bruce Lee tends to go for the defensive style of martial arts. Unlike modern MMA, which mostly focuses on an offensive style, Lee had a different legacy. Lee’s legacy also paved the way for modern MMA but there are rarely any martial artists that go for the defensive approach.
Lee, during his magnificent martial arts career, founded his own form of martial arts, which was named ‘Jeet Kune Do.’ It was a hybrid form of MMA. It focused on the way of life rather than straight on fighting. Lee believed that martial arts weren’t for taking someone out. It was more of a self-defense technique.
