Joe Rogan hosts the famous podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Furthermore, it’s a famous podcast wherein he discusses various topics and stories with his guests, ranging from comedy and philosophy to sports and science. However, a story shared by the Canadian-American physician Petter Attia about one of the greatest marathon swimmers left the Rogan stunned.

Naturally, by now he has heard his fair share of crazy stories from his guests and shouldn’t be fazed by the new ones. So who was this revelation about? And why it stunned him?
The swimmer’s story bowled Joe Rogan over
Canadian-American physician Petter Attia appeared on Joe’s podcast in April 2018. The two discussed marathon swimming and shared stories about some ultra swimmers. What’s more, one of these stories was about the legendary marathon swimmer, Penny Lee Dean.
Talking about the record Penny holds to date, Attia told Joe that the lady covered the 20 miles in 7 hours and 20 minutes. Joe was stunned. Attia continued by saying, “She is a phenom.” He further spoke about her stroke rate of 90 strokes per minute and expressed his surprise. “I mean to have your hand hit the water every 2/3rd of a second is a remarkable thing.”
Furthermore, reacting to the story, Joe said, “She is insane. She is a beast.” Attia added that Dean was “out of control.” To this Joe said, “There are certain people like that man that freak me out.“
All about Penny Lee Dean
Penny Lee Dean is a long-distance swimmer from The United States Of America. The world knows her as one of the finest in this category in the sport’s history. Dean has held world records for her swims in the Catalina Channel, and the English Channel. Penny Dean, considered one of the fastest, had a stroke rate of 90 strokes per minute.

In September 1976, Dean set her first world record for fastest solo swimming in the Catalina Channel. She did that in 7 hrs, 15mins, and 22secs. Secondly, in 1977, she set another record in the same channel for the fastest double-crossing. The record time for this record is 20hrs 3mins and 1 sec. Finally, in July 1978, she set her third world record. This time it was for the fastest solo crossing in the English Channel, doing so in a record time of 7hrs 40 minutes.

Eventually, in 1980, Penny Dean was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame. Moreover, she was also inducted into the Swimming Hall of Fame in 1996.
