The resurfaced image on Facebook shows the master in a beard and a mustache, making him look absolutely different from his usual looks. One can say his facial hair completely transforms his personality from what fans have usually seen of him. Moreover, Lee?s wide-collar jacket with shiny bracelets on his wrist perfectly accentuated his beardy flamboyance. Adding a strange but fascinating sharpness to his look, Lee?s beard in the 1960s made fans go gaga over his fashion.
Lee?s biography, ‘Bruce Lee: A Life’, also mentions the time when Lee newly started appearing in public with his bearded look. Author Mathew Polly revealed that while the master lived in Hong Kong, he never grew his beard. In Chinese culture, a clean-shaven look is always preferred over a beardy one. However, once Lee went to America, he adapted to the western lifestyle too. Hence, in the 1960s, Lee experimented with growing his beard. Although youngsters in Hong Kong began copying Lee’s style, the Chinese media expressed dissatisfaction with it.
However, besides the controversy over his beard, Lee?s trailblazing dressing sense is an example of sheer confidence.
A quick look at Bruce Lee?s fashion choices
Between the 1960s to 1970s, the master explored men?s fashion in an elegant yet extensive manner. Initially, when he came to America, Lee was a fan of traditional ivy league clothing. He would extensively wear full-hand shirts with two to three roll-ups. Soon, Lee began to experiment with his style. He adapted to wide-collared shirts or tanked tops and jackets along with flared jeans and heeled boots.
