During the St. Louis Cardinals’ incredible 2021 season, Adam Wainwright featured among their best players without a doubt. The 40-year-old produced excellent consistency on the pitcher’s mound to aid the Cardinals’ late charge for a spot in the playoffs.

With the 2021 season now in the past, the focus shifts towards 2022. With a lengthy off-season between now and Opening Day, Wainwright recently took to social media to share a sneak peek into his preparations for next year.

Since joining the Cardinals in 2005, Wainwright established himself as an extremely efficient pitchers in the National League. In just his second season, Wainwright won the World Series with the Cardinals, which remains his only Fall Classic victory to date.

At a point in time in the recently concluded season, the Cardinals’ chances of making the postseason looked bleak. However, they embarked on a historic 17-game winning streak which saw them seal a spot in the NL Wildcard game with a 90-72 record. In 2021, Wainwright tallied a 17-7 record with an ERA of 3.05, which depicted his incredible skills even at 40 years of age.

With the off-season now in full swing, Wainwright used a new method to display his pitching skills. Attending a funfair, the 40-year-old attempted a popular game where a clown sat a few inches above a water bath. With two balls in his hand, Wainwright needed to hit a target in order to send the clown into the bath.

He nailed it on the first attempt itself, which displayed his right arm works absolutely fine even in the off-season. The 40-year-old shared a video of his throw on Twitter with a caption that read, “No better time to start getting ready for spring training than at the fair. Enjoy your bath clown.”

Can Wainwright lead the Cardinals to more success in 2022?

For the 2022 season, Wainwright signed a lucrative one-year deal with the Cardinals which sees his salary doubled. Despite featuring among the older players in the franchise, they clearly have faith in the 40-year-old and for good reason.
