The Tampa Bay Rays recorded an impressive 12-2 victory over the New York Yankees yesterday. While the scoreline made it seem like a mismatch, the Rays had Brandon Rowe to thank for a phenomenal hitting performance in Yankee Stadium.

The second baseman smashed three home runs to hand the Rays their 100th victory of this season. Furthermore, the Rays put the Yankees in danger of missing out on the MLB playoffs as well.

The 27-year-old stole the show in New York right from the get go. Although the Yankees has Jordan Montgomery and Michael King as pitchers, they were no match for Lowe on their home turf.

Out of 10 Rays’ players who stepped up to the plate, seven of them scored at least one run. Lowe top scored with his three home runs, and also notched up an impressive seven RBI.

The first of those three home runs came in the top of the first inning itself. With Montgomery on the pitcher’s mound, Lowe sent a 92mph pitch in the strike zone into the stands on the right-hand side of the field. With two bases loaded, this hit from the 27-year-old meant he scored a three-run home run for the Rays, giving them a 3-0 lead.

The second of those three home runs came in the top of the third inning. Once again, the left-handed Montgomery was on the receiving end of another huge shot from Lowe as he sent a slider into the stand on the right-hand side of the field.

The Rays garnered three more runs from this play, moving to a 6-1 lead to assert dominance.

In the top of the seventh inning, Lowe scored his final home run of the game. This time, Michael King was on the receiving end of Lowe’s brilliance as he sent an 80mph pitch outside the strike zone into the stands. This was a solo home run, moving the Rays up to 9-2 on the scoreboard.
