This season, the National League has seen one of the best San Francisco Giants sides in recent memory. Apart from dominating their division, they currently have the best record of any team in the ongoing MLB season.
While two games remain in the regular season, the Giants already matched an impressive record which stood for over a century.

Yesterday, the Giants faced the San Diego Padres in the first of their final three-game series this season. They played the Padres in a four-game series and a three-game series earlier this month. In the four-game series, the two teams won two games each, while in the three-game series, the Giants won two of those matches.
In the last 10 matches, the Padres are the only team to beat the Giants, which they did with a 7-6 scoreline in Petco Park. However, their match yesterday in the Oracle Park didn’t fare the same way. The Giants raced to a 2-0 lead in the first inning itself, and added another in the bottom of the sixth to secure a 3-0 victory.
This victory marked their 106th of the season, which matches a record they set in 1904.

They have two more games against the Padres to break that record. Given the form they are in at the moment, one wouldn’t rule them out from making franchise history.
The most wins achieved by a team in a single season is 116. This feat belongs to the 1906 Chicago Cubs, and the 2001 Seattle Mariners. However, the Cubs have the winningest record since they played 152 games instead of 162, meaning they have the highest winning percentage of 76.3%.

Can the Giants end the season on top of the NL West?
Despite their impressive record, they are still yet to seal the National League West division. This is because they face stiff competition from the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With a 104-56 record, the Dodgers are just two games behind the Giants. However, should the Giants win against the Padres today, they will seal the NL West division and send the Dodgers to the wildcard game.
