Among those people featured his former teammate Hunter Pence, who Posey will join in retirement. The 38-year-old shared a few messages on social media to show his appreciation for Posey’s stellar career.
Hunter Pence wishes Buster Posey well following his retirement
While Posey played for the Giants throughout his career, Pence didn’t have the same journey. In 2007, the Houston Astros drafted the designated hitter into the MLB, where he played for five seasons. After playing a season with the Philadelphia Phillies, he moved to the Giants in 2012, where he instantly made an impact.
In his debut season with the Giants, Pence recorded 87 runs and 104 RBI in 160 regular season games. He won his maiden World Series title as part of the Giants, while his teammate Posey won his second. The pair won the World Series again in 2014, which was arguably Pence’s best season as a hitter.
After playing the 2019 season with the Texas Rangers, he returned to the Giants in 2020 before announcing his retirement. Posey backed out of that season due to COVID-19, which meant Pence didn’t play with him in his last MLB season. Despite that, the 38-year-old had nothing but praise for Posey, which he shared on Twitter.
Your talent is once in a generation and I am grateful for the experience to have played alongside of you. You have given so much to this game and the community. Thank you brotha, now go enjoy your wonderful family that you love so much!

He wrote, “Congratulations to my good friend @BusterPosey on a legendary career! Your impact on the @sfgiants organization cannot be understated. You mean so much to this team, this city, & the fans!

His accolades in the sport don’t make his inclusion in the Hall of Fame a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’. With Posey now out of the MLB, the Giants will hope to find a replacement who can fill in the void he left for next season.
