Two years ago, Scoble first sensed something was off with his body during a game of lacrosse. He collapsed on the field from exhaustion and later had trouble playing effectively and even staying upright. After Scoble discussed this with his coach, Chris Ryan, his optimistic outlook suddenly changed. The lacrosse player was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a disease in which the heart muscle grows enlarged and weak. Because of this condition, his heart was having trouble delivering sufficient blood to the rest of the body. According to Today, Scoble felt devastated, saying, “I’m in the middle of a lacrosse season, and now I’m being told I have heart failure.”
But just as things were looking rough for the young lacrosse player, doctors came up with a solution: a heart transplant. While waiting for the transplant, Scoble’s illness worsened to the point that he went from 202 pounds to 142. However, when his heart stopped for 11 seconds, medics were able to bring him back to life. Scoble’s body was weak after the transplant, but his mind was strong, and he never lost sight of his goal of getting back to the lacrosse field. He shares his story after healing and getting back to the field, saying, “I remember the first time making that contact, and it was just like ‘Wow.'” He also praised his donor, whom he acknowledged as the primary contributor to the fact that he is still alive and able to achieve his objectives.
