Stories of how a horse may transform a person’s life are common these days. Though the number has grown recently because of the favorable impact of several celebrities on these majestic creatures, there was once a horse who accomplished something no other horse had managed to achieve up to that point. Chinese people have warm feelings for “Silent Witness” – a horse who competed in the horse races in Hong Kong.

Winning three or four races in a row is common, but winning seventeen races in a row is very rare. An entire country looked up to this icon when times got bad. For what reasons did he leave an impression on the Chinese people and the majority of Hong Kongers?

In 1999, on October 1st, Silent Witness was born to El Moxie and Jada Tiara. Everyone, but especially those living in Hong Kong, adored the new horse because of how often it raced and how often it won. For many reasons, but most importantly, the horse represented hope to them. The events of Silent Witness took place amid the height of Hong Kong’s economic downturn.

The way Silent Witness uplifted the people was really remarkable, even after he retired. Furthermore, Silent Witness brought honor to everyone since he not only won 17 races, but he won his first 17 races. Even his rider, Felix Coetzee, was moved to tears as the adored horse retired. His stablemate Bullish Luck beat him in the 2005 Champions Mile 1600-meter race.

Silent Witness, a living legend’s retreat

Silent Witness was a remarkable victor of several well-known and memorable races—including the 2003 and 2004 Hong Kong Sprint and International Sprint Trial. Coming in with a boom and going out with the same, he established a champion’s record before retiring. The Australian stable of Living Legends is hosting the career-earning horse, which has earned almost $10 million.
