The horse racing industry has grown to embrace the storied legacies of many equines that pass through to the other world. Their track records and career earnings frequently define the highlights for memorabilia. However, that did not seem to be the case for the Ecurie des Monceaux’s Scarlet’s Sister; the 14-year-old mare who bid a final goodbye.

A De Royer-Dupre-trained Scarlet’s Sister had an interesting narrative to her career. With no excelling record of her own on the tracks, the mare made sure to leave behind a legacy to celebrate. From Beverly D to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Scarlet’s Sister has been a dam to quite the equines. Today, as she leaves behind her stables the horse racing community grieves an esteemed loss.

Horse Racing enthusiasts mourn a precious loss

On the evening of the 23rd of November, Ecurie des Monceaux, Scarlet’s Sister’s owner, took to their X account to update the fans on the passing of the equine. All the team ?@EcurieMonceaux is sad to report the lost of our champion mare Starlet?s Sister this morning. She was 14. She has given us so much. We are all very sad,” the post expressed sharing an image of Scarlet’s Sister.

According to further reports, it was revealed that the 14-year-old passed away after an attack of colic. ?She has been such a special mare. It was a dream for us to win the Arc and she gave us that. She was so straightforward in everything she did. She went in foal every year until this year and she produced good foals,” owner Henry Bozo said, according to Thorough Bred Daily News. Scarlet’s Sister had 4 starts in her career but yielded no win; thus moving to the breeding sheds.

Scarlet’s Sister’s excelling legacy

The first of the 14-year-old’s foal with Myboycharlie brought in Sistercharlie. The 8-year-old has been entitled to the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf and 2018 Champion Female Turf Horse. The record is furthered by a total of 7 grade 1 wins in America including Jenny Wiley Stakes and Beverly D. Stakes. Another one of Scarlet’s Sister’s famed foals includes Sottsass.

Born from the breeding of Scarlet’s Sister and Galileo, Sottsass won 5 out of 9 starts in total. Among his prestigious victories are the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Prix Ganay, and Prix du Jockey Club, marking significant titles for the French Thoroughbred. The success of these two stars notably increased the demand for Scarlet’s Sister, whose offspring have shown remarkable success. Out of her 8 runners, 7 have emerged victorious to date. Bozo expressed, “She was so easy to deal with, and we all loved her,”?reminiscing about the departed mare who continues to leave her legacy through her foals.
