Travis Wimberly, a resident of New Mexico’s Los Lunas village, had a bet going with one of his friends. His friend Zaryah Mueller challenged him to break her father’s two-time Wild Thing championship record. Intrigued by the challenge, Wimberly accepted and resolved to win the championship three or four times. He wants to win the $500 in bet from Zaryah, whose father is the legendary Daniel Mueller, winner of the 1998-99 Wild Things Championships. Other rodeos with a similar record as Wimberly and Mueller are Robertson Cody, Hadley Miller, and Lane Nobles.

Wimberly won the Championship with a spectacular performance on a bull that belonged to the Sammy Andrews Rodeo Company. The bull named Panhandler was extremely vicious. The young rodeo had seen Panhandler in action last Friday when one of his friends tried to control it. Wimberly spoke to a reporter from the Navajo Times, concluding, “You really didn’t know what he was gonna do, so I just … had to bare down”. He understood that all he needed was perseverance to stay the longest time on the bull. And that is what he did, winning him first place with 89 points. The second-place holder Xavier Antez also another teenager mesmerized everyone with his skills.
