Bodybuilding legend Lou Ferrigno expressed his opinions about the current age of bodybuilders. He once pointed out the incorrect practices displayed by modern bodybuilding stars in an interview. Comparing different generations of bodybuilders, he expressed how modern bodybuilders and bodybuilding as a whole just aren’t the same anymore.

Talking about his generation of bodybuilders, he mentioned himself and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He said, “Public doesn’t embrace like it used to be, but we were the original,” and added, “We were the ones that bought it to the mainstream”
He pointed out that back then, the focus was purely on bodybuilding. Comparing this to the current practices, he said, “Today I walk in the gym, I see most of these guys wear sweatpants, hats, sunglasses and talking on their cellphones, there’s no personality”
Ferrigno praises current bodybuilders despite not liking certain qualities
Despite the disappointment, he did say that the guys today are phenomenal, the only thing lacking is the camaraderie.
Considering his legacy and experience, his opinions do mean a lot and is something that should be taken seriously. However, it would be interesting to see whether modern-day bodybuilders take note of Ferrigno’s opinions.
Bodybuilding legend Lou Ferrigno talks about his journey
As a young bodybuilder, Lou Ferrigno trained with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 1974, he came in second on his first attempt at the Mr. Olympia competition.
He attempted to beat Arnold Schwarzenegger, and this was the subject of the 1977 documentary Pumping Iron. This documentary made Ferrigno famous. Ferrigno also competed in the first annual World’s Strongest Man competition in 1977, where he finished fourth in this competition.

After his successful stint in Hollywood, he returned to bodybuilding in 1992, where he took part in the 1992 and 1993 Mr. Olympia championships, finishing 12th and 10th, respectively. His part in the 1994 Masters Olympia was the subject of the 1996 documentary Stand Tall.

What might be surprising to many, Ferrigno also played football for a brief period. He retired from professional bodybuilding in 1995.
