Born in Warwickshire, England, Dorian Yates is one of the finest bodybuilders in today’s era.  In an interview, Yates spoke about his idyllic upbringing and winning the British Championship in Wembley.

Dorian Yates competed in bodybuilding in the 1980s and the 1990s. In another interview with bodybuilding.com, Yates made surprising revelations. He spoke about how, during his time, bodybuilding was primarily considered an ‘American’ sport and there were fewer facilities for bodybuilding in England. In another Facebook post, he also told why the era he competed in was different from bodybuilding today.

Dorian Yates recalls his bodybuilding journey

“Back then, there was no internet, so I learnt everything from books,” Yates told in a viral Facebook post. Further, Dorian Yates said that he probably read all books and magazines on bodybuilding published from 1983 to 1997. He also disclosed that he read books on nutrition and sports psychology as well.

Yates also spoke about how there was one store in Birmingham that had bodybuilding magazines. He also disclosed how he left home at the age of 16. The legend further added that at that time, he had no job or any place to live. Due to this, Yates revealed that he couldn’t go to the gym during the early phase of his career.

The champion bodybuilder also told about how the bodybuilders did not have any recognition unless they were featured in the Weider magazine. He also mentioned that he did a photoshoot to be featured in Joe Weider’s magazine.

The star bodybuilder also revealed that there were times when he could have left bodybuilding but he didn’t. He also spoke about how his biceps tore but he didn’t give up.
