It is not inevitable that athletes are successful in their sports but not in business. It all comes down to the individual interest and skill. Some individuals have applied their business acumen, along with a focus on their athletic careers. Lindsey Vonn is a prime example of it. The Olympic gold medalist, even before accomplishing a successful alpine skiing career, has associated herself with many brands and projects which are very successful.

In her recent interview at a conference in Park City, Utah, the skier shared her mantras for business success. She has been associated with long-term collaborations with billion-dollar brands since her sporting days and continues to pursue her business with the same mindset.

The downhill skiing gold medalist has turned to investments and collaboration after retirement. While doing that, she maintained her long-term association with brands of her skiing days like the 3.47 billion dollar brand Under Armour and Red Bull. Recently she associated with Dwayne the Rock Johnson as an ambassador for his ‘Project Rock’.  Explaining her business success and the mindset she had for that, Vonn said that her investment insight is the same as she had while relationship building for her brand or choosing people to work with.

Interestingly, in an interview with Fortune, Vonn shared a golden financial tip with her fandom and stated, “I don’t ever look at anything short-term“. She further continued, “It served me well in my career. And now in this new investment world“.

Throughout her illustrious career, Vonn has experienced multiple injuries and confronted daunting mental challenges, teaching her that successful people possess a vital quality i.e. Grit. She said, “It’s not the smartest people in the room. It’s the people that are willing to sacrifice the most to be the best.” It’s the determination and grittiness of people that make them successful.

Post Retirement Lindsey Vonn Business Journey

After her retirement from competitive sports, the alpine skier has indulged in many successful businesses as an investor. She had invested in Hyperice, an injury prevention innovative tech company, and a fitness brand Tempo that provides in-home fitness solutions. The Olympian also ventured into entrepreneurial projects and collaborated with Dwayne Johnson for Project Rock. She also owns a film production company which has released a documentary on skiing icon Picabo Street. Besides these, she is also associated with three venture capital funds as an advisor and investor.

During the interview, Lindsey Vonn shared that she had started a foundation in her name, whose goal is to help girls develop and gain confidence in the pursuit of their passion. Through this foundation, she hopes to counter the teenage year drop-off in sports. It is to give them courage so that they can gain the required skill set to follow their passion.
