Gianmarco Tamberi, the renowned Italian showman of track and field, ascended to the peak of glory at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest ’23. He basked in the spotlight as the sole champion, triumphantly conquering the high jump for the second time in three years. Harnessing the fervour of the spirited Italian spectators at the National Athletics Centre, the 31-year-old effortlessly cleared 2.36m on his initial attempt, securing an unparalleled Olympic feat.

Recently, World Athletics shared a compelling reel featuring Gianmarco Tamberi, resonating with individuals universally. Within this reel, Tamberi eloquently articulated the profound layers within the relationship shared between a son and his mother. He touched upon sentiments often left unspoken, acknowledging that most people hesitate to openly express their true feelings towards their mothers—expressing pride, admiration, and boundless love. In his words,” I think most of the people never say to a mother what they really think about them how much how much we are proud of our mother, how much how much we want we love them.”

Tamberi highlighted the common reluctance to articulate such emotions, citing a sense of shyness inhibiting genuine expression. However, he emphasized that moments like winning a gold medal in the world championship, especially while being with one’s mother, allow these suppressed emotions to surge forth, encapsulating the depth of affection in a singular moment, often captured in a picture. Tamberi’s heartfelt thoughts in the reel show how deep and complex a son’s relationship with his mom can be.
