A Twitter user’s list of the greatest athletes of all time has created quite a buzz. The debate is on the inclusion of Joey Chestnut’s name ahead of swimming and sprinting legends Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt.

“No, they don?t”: Former athletes spat over names

On Twitter, a list of the greatest athletes of all time was posted through the account name Heatdaddy. The list contained the names of Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Floyd Mayweather, Rachel Starr, Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky, Joey Chesnut, and Rodger Federer in the same respective order. As expected the tweet garnered more than two thousand replies, 434 retweets, and 1.7 million views.

The post garnered spotlight when Kyle Sockwell a former national collegiate athletic association swimmer and media personality retweeted it. He said that the list should have greats like swimmer Michael Phelps and sprinter Usain Bolt. Another person supported his claim and further added that they deserve more than Joey Chesnut to be on the list.

To this, former ice hockey player Marc Methot came commented “No, they don’t. Joey Chestnut is one of the greatest athletes of all time, hence him being on the top ten list“. According to him running on the track and swimming in a pool doesn’t make anyone great. According to Methot, the list was flawless.

Greatest of all time: A non-ending debate

Every famous athlete is famous because they have achieved unparallel dominance in their field. Michael Phelps has 28 Olympic medals, making him the most decorated Olympian of all time. Usain Bolt still holds the 100M and 200M sprint world records, and the title of the Fastest Man on Earth. Joey Chesnut is a Major League Eating champion, with 16 Nathan’s Famous HDB titles. Beyond their athletic achievements, these athletes have left a lasting impact on society and paved the way for future generations.
