Surfing in the longest barrel ride

Surfline posted a clip on Instagram in which Max Elkington, a pro surfer from South Africa, is seen surfing through a barrel. The clip was shot in Skeleton Bay, Namibia, and the caption referred to it as the longest barreling wave in the world. In the clip, Elkington was riding through the barrel waves from the start. He continues to ride in the barrel for a long time without being caught in it.

What astonished the viewers was his entry timing, fine balance, and little tweaks with the board when the wave comes closer. The surfer exhibited a high level of mental toughness, focus, and good observation of the waves. Elkington must have felt exhilarated and should be proud of his achievement. The surfing community is thrilled with the rare and exclusive wave-riding moment and was not shy of expressing their appreciation.

Riding through the barrel is the pinnacle of wave riding. This does not happen very often, but is rare. The sharing of this above clip instantly hit and attracted comments from all over the place.  One netizen commented, “That size looks doable usually so big n heavy“, pointing out the surfer’s skill that made the wave look doable. Another enthusiast commented, “Drone gonna lose connection that wave is so long”, referring to the long ride the surfer did in the barrel wave.

One was curious about the depth of the water below the surfer and asked, “How deep do you figure the water is under his board?“. He got a reply from another netizen saying, “At least half the wave size, more when he’s deep in the barrel.” One netizen was just amazed at what he saw and commented, “Incredible” with a smiling emoji.

Surfing through the barrel is in doubt the ultimate achievement in wave riding and Elkington is doing it with perfection for a very long period than expected.
