The world’s largest rodeo event worth millions of dollars is underway in Gillette, Wyoming. Interestingly, the event has crossed its phase and now gears for the second. The sixteen events rodeo tournament has attracted high school talents not only from the US but also from Canada, Mexico, and the world over.

The event gives an opportunity to young talents to compete at the highest level. This year, over 1500 athletes are participating.  The first phase witnessed some epic performances from the high school rodeos. The rain, wind, and hail couldn’t affect the young rodeos in the field.

Phase one ends with magnificent performances

On Wednesday, the morning first phase of the world’s largest rodeo event comes to an end. The first phase of bareback riding saw Wacey Schalla, from Oklahoma, secured the highest with an 80.5 run. A bareback event is where a rodeo ride without a saddle on a bucking horse and the rodeo gets scores on the number of jumps he makes and how well he stays on the horse. In the first phase of barrel racing, Piper Cordes from South Dakota claimed the first position with a 17.015 run. Barrel racing event is where the rider has to pass through three barrels that are placed in a cloverleaf pattern. The rider who revolves around those barrels in the least time is the winner.

In the first phase of team roping, Brady Garner and Tyler Porter from Mississippi got on the podium finish with 6.34 run. Team roping is an event where two rodeo work as a team to rope a steer. The team which does it in the least time and ties perfectly the steer is the winner. In the first phase of saddle bronc riding, Traven Sharon from Colorado secured the first position by scoring 80 runs. In the saddle bronc event, a rodeo ride with a saddle on a bucking horse and the rodeo gets scores on the number of jumps he makes and how well he stays on the horse.

The first phase showed some very impressive performances in all the events which have the expectations for the second phase of the competition. Thus, maintaining the repute and legacy of the event.

A remarkable event: taking the legacy forward

The event which started on the 6th of July and continues till the 22nd of July is a remarkable one. It carries a long history and purpose of preserving Western life and heritage along with promoting it among the young generation.

Apart from said sixteen rodeo events, there are other events like the 75th NHSFR Vintage Night and the National High School Rodeo Queen. The top finishers at the event will qualify for the National Finals Rodeo competition. The NHSR also provides scholarships to the best athlete in the event.
