The players are restricted from talking to any staff from the franchises and vice versa regarding recruitment. But the Chicago Cubs’ pursuit of the all-star seems to have just found the perfect workaround. Getting a player to act as an agent.
Marcus Stroman signed on to pitch from the Wrigley Field mound early this December just before the lockout came to be and seems to really have become one with the Chicago canvas.
Responding to a tweet from a fan asking him what he thought about the rumors around the signing, Stroman undertook the role of possible agent. tagging Correa and asking him to respond to the rumors surrounding his signing.

The apparent hold-up is around the duration of his contract. While Correa is looking for a longer term deal á la Seager who signed with the Rangers on a bumper 10-year, $325 million deal prior to the lockout. The Cubs are more on the lookout for a shorter deal to offer the 27 year old.

The only possible other suitors for Correa include half the league, but realistically, it seems as though the Yankees, and Cubs remain the favorites. The Astros however, being the incumbent team cannot be counted out. Both the teams from the East Coast have shown intent, and possess the means to back their offers financially. But that’s what makes this interesting.

While the Yankees are also in the market for a shortstop, a recent fan poll has shown that they would much rather prefer Trevor Story on a shorter contract. The teams are likely concerned about factors like health and form going into the signing season. And a 10 year contract is more than just a statement of intent. It is a statement of commitment.
While the teams wait for the lockout to end, it looks as though Carlos Correa, stands to advantage out of a big payday coming his way.
