When an accident happens at a horse racing event it is always tragic. In the wake of multiple deaths and injuries to the horses, the incident tends to attract wide attention. In a recent incident that happened at the Saratoga race course, a two-year-old filly fell on the ground. The scary incident happened during the race.

In a clip that has become viral on the internet, the filly can be seen running along with the others and tripping in a dramatic scene near the end line unseating the jockey along with it. The incident brought to memory the fears of horse euthanization.

A recent clip was shared on Twitter through the Horse Racing Community page. In the ten seconds clip the race is in its final stage. When they were approaching the final line four horses were in contention – The No9 Foxhole, No7 Same Old Fears, No8 Anchises, and No1 Billy The Greek. As the final line came near the No9 Foxhole and No1 Billy the Greek charged leaving behind No8 Anchises at third and No7 Same Old Fear at fourth.

During the final seconds, No7 Same Old Fears clipped the heel with the No8 Anchises and fell to the ground. The Jockey Jose Ortiz also fell to the ground. According to the post, nothing happened to the filly. It was sound and healthy. But the jockey had to be taken to the hospital for the checkups. This was the debut race for Same Old Fears for its trainer Wesley Ward. The race was won by Billy the Greek in a close call and Same Old Fear finished fourth.

According to the latest reports the jockey Jose Ortiz who was taken to Albany Medical Center appears to have bruised ribs. His agent said that he will not be admitted and will be discharged. He will come back after watching his recovery on day to day basis.

The incident brings back memories of  horse race accidents

This is not the first time such an incident has happened. In March this year, a three-year-old filly was euthanized at the Golden Gate Fields. The horse Ultimate Diva finished the race in first place but during the race got severe injury due to which it was euthanized. This is the fourth fatality at the Golden Gate field this year. A similar incident happened at Churchill Downs when two horses died on the same day. The 3-year-old gelding named Chloe’s Dream and a 3-year-old colt named Freezing Point got injured during the race and had to be euthanized. They were the sixth and seventh fatality at Churchill Downs this year.  A three-horse accident happened in January this year at Gulfstream  Park where the horse Bo Derek was euthanized and a jockey was injured.

It is good news that the two-year filly is well and healthy. The incident happened due to clipping and couldn’t be avoided.
