The Kentucky Derby Queen has been crowned! With the Kentucky Derby around the corner, excited fans waiting for the event to start have received news of the coronation. The Kentucky Derby Festival’s Queen was finally selected from almost 100 applicants at the Fillies Derby ball, located at Louisville Marriott. A newsfeed named WSAZ disclosed all details of the coronation.
Following tradition, the Queen was chosen by the spin of the wheel. This year, the Filies President Bob Wainwright performed this tradition as the top competitors which included Hayley Benson, Laurence Carter, Mallory Hudson, and Mahshad Taheri held their breath. So who is the new Kentucky Derby Queen?
Kentucky Derby Festival finds its Queen for 2023

This year, Mahshad Taheri was coronated as the Queen in the Kentucky Derby festival. A business finance student who is in her senior year at the University of Louisville, Taheri also works as a volunteer for elementary students in her free time. Over the moon at getting this huge honor, Taheri was all smiles at receiving her crown.
Taheri also received $3000 worth of scholarships after being crowned. While one of the scholarships was given by Fillies Inc, Kentucky Derby Festival Foundation gave one scholarship while the third scholarship was given by Luzianne Tea.

Not only this, but Taheri will also receive an official wardrobe for the event. According to WSAZ, Taheri, who is the newly crowned queen will also attend almost all the events of the Kentucky Derby Festival. While the crowning of Taheri tripled the locals’ excitement in Louisville, they got another massive boost ahead of the elite equestrian event.
The Block Party before the real party

A sponsored block party on 15th April at the west end recently gave a fillip to the local community. Organized for the second year with the help of Churchill Downs, Humana along with Park Community Credit Union, this was a free party held at Norton Health Care Sports and Learning Center. The party offered a boost to the local minority-owned businesses.
The event also consisted of a marketplace and local food trucks along with avenues for shopping to support the local community. The sponsored party also included music along with an additional health screening by Norton Health Care. All these attractions helped to kill two birds with one stone, showcasing local talent and increasing local revenue.
