Lou Ferrigno, the bodybuilding icon, once shared his childhood struggles in an interview that took place in 2010. In conversation, Ferrigno talked about how he was looked down upon by his friends and how their criticism fueled his strength.

Lou Ferrigno is a bodybuilding legend and a famous television actor. He has won the IFBB Mr. America title and two consecutive IFBB Mr. Universe titles. Apart from his onstage heroics, he is known for his on-screen theatrics in the series The Incredible Hulk.

Lou Ferrigno was ridiculed as a child

Back in the 60s, when Ferrigno had just begun training, his friends often looked down upon him for pursuing a shadow sport like bodybuilding. Talking about the same, he said, “I would get ridiculed by my friends, they kept laughing at me. But I didn’t let that affect me.”

Ferrigno took his friends’ criticism positively and instead started training even harder. He added, “Every time I trained it made me feel good about myself.” From that point on, there was no stopping him as he was deemed for greatness and greatness he achieved.

His incredible passion for the sport took him to heights he had never seen before.

Ferrigno makes it big

Ferrigno overcame all the criticism thrown his way and came out on top, both as a bodybuilder and an actor. He appeared in the documentary film ‘Pumping Iron’ and instantly became a fan favorite. What’s surprising is that he has also played for a brief period in the Canadian Football league. He returned to bodybuilding in the early 1990s, competing for the 1992 and 1993 Mr. Olympia titles.

The bodybuilding legend still keeps himself fit and keeps working on several new projects. Despite having retired years ago, he remains a household name, with several up-and-coming bodybuilders looking up to The Incredible Hulk for inspiration.
