Bodybuilding legend, Lou Ferrigno was one of the familiar faces of the mainstream media between 1970-80. After securing his stardom in bodybuilding, he grabbed the eyes of the younger generation with “The Incredible Hulk” Tv series. Since then, he has closely seen Marvel’s work and their character’s evolution. However, Ferrigno once revealed the time when the introduction of Thor did not go up to Stan Lee’s expectations.

Marvel cinematic universe has given some of the iconic fictional characters a huge fanbase. The debate of the ‘fan’s favorite’ avenger has always been a part of mainstream media. Today, characters like Thor, Ironman, and Captain America stand at the top of the list of the most popular superheroes. But there was a time when even Thor’s character couldn’t stand a chance against Hulk in terms of popularity.
Lou Ferrigno explained ‘Why’ the introduction of other marvel characters failed in the 1970s-80s?
In 2017, while talking to MCM, Ferrigno revealed that Stan Lee’s team started introducing various Marvel characters after the early success of the show. In 1988, the team came up with a show called ‘The Incredible Hulk returns.’ They brought the show as a continuation of the original 1978–1982 television series.
The aim was to expand the Marvel universe. It introduced the additional characters of Thor and Daredevil in the show. Ferrigno said “At the time, they did it because they were hoping to create a series with Daredevil and Thor..”

However, this trial failed, as viewers wanted to see more of Banner and Hulk. With Ferrigno’s brilliant acting, the characters of Hulk and Banner had already built their fanbases. The legend bodybuilder added, “but it was still a Hulk show.” Thus, Thor and daredevil did not get much attention from the fans of the show. As a result, Thor wasn’t able to bring the viewership that the team was hoping for from the storyline.
Ferrigno’s journey from Hulk on Television to Hulk in Cinemas
The 71-year-old legend has been an integral part of Hulk’s character, be it on television or silver screen. He is known by the title ‘Incredible Hulk’ after his exceptional acting performance. After the iconic portrayal of Hulk in the television series, Lou has given his voice to the CGI version of Hulk in the movie, “Thor Ragnarok”. Although the American actor has not been not a huge fan of the new version.

The veteran was not happy with the MCU’s way of treating the character as a green superhero. Ferrigno complained that the CGI-created Hulk, seen in Avengers movies, was not “hideous” enough.
