Bodybuilding icon Phil Heath, who has won seven consecutive Mr. Olympia titles from 2011 to 2017, shared in an interview in 2019 how he felt when he went up on the stage for the very first time and it is really surprising!

Heath is a legendary bodybuilder who holds the record along with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the joint second number of all-time Mr. Olympia wins, just behind legends Ronnie Coleman and Lee Haney. He finally managed to get hold of the coveted Mr. Olympia title in 2011 after trying for many years! As a result, Heath broke into tears after winning his first-ever title.

Phil Heath was overwhelmed!

Although Phil Heath’s physique is said to be one of the best and most well-balanced bodybuilding physiques of all time, he shared in an interview how he was feeling while being on the stage for the first time in his life. He said, “The first time on stage, I was completed overwhelmed as I wasn’t wearing a basketball uniform, but now, posing trunks.”

Going forward, he said, This brought out major insecurity with me, as being up there you are actually judged, not by your smile or if you were nice, but how you actually looked in comparison to the other athletes.”

Heath shared how it was scary the first time around to be on the stage and compete against well-established bodybuilders. He shared how a lady in the crowd cheered him up, suggesting that he smiled, as he was expectedly looking nervous. This motivated him a lot and thereafter, he just went all guns blazing. That incident helped him just be himself and hit pose after pose.

Heath is a basketball player!

Interestingly, Heath used to play basketball in high school. He was the team captain and shooting guard on the varsity basketball team in his high school. Heath also played shooting guard for his university’s basketball team. Even now, he likes playing basketball whenever he gets time apart from training.
