The six-time US Open champion, Serena Williams took on Bianca Andreescu, who was playing her first career Grand Slam final. Andreescu lifted her maiden Slam title, with 6-3, 7-5 victory over 23-time Grand Slam champion, Williams. Now, Andreescu holds 8-0 win-loss record against the top ten players this year, and she is will be ranked number five in the world on Monday.

Last year, the 19-year-old, Andreescu didn’t qualify for the US Open main draw and this year she becomes the US Open champion with a straight-sets victory over the veteran tennis player.

The last teenager to win a US Open title was Maria Sharapova at US Open 2006 and 13 years later, Bianca Andreescu becomes the latest one. Serena Williams is yet to win a set in the major finals as a mother.

Set One:

World Number eight, Serena won the toss and elected to serve. She opened her service game with an ace, but with two consecutive double faults on deuce, Bianca Andreecu held the opening break.

Before the finals in New York Serena had just dropped three service games. Serena did produce heavy forehands in the next game, but it was Andreecu taking a 2-0 lead as Serena’s backhands flawed.

Her 18-year younger opponent, Andreescu was fighting in the next game, but Serena made a comfortable hold at 2-1.

Bianca Andreescu had five opportunities to take a 5-2 lead, but a warrior inside Serena Williams exploded to settle the score at 4-3. The American got a break point to balance the set at 4-4, but Bianca made a Serena-like move and strike it off with an ace.

Serena Williams made errors on her next service game followed by Bianca’s relentless hitting. Williams double-faulted on the Canadian’s set point, and Bianca Andreescu was a set away from her maiden Slam.

Set Two:

Serena Williams once again was broken early in the second set with a double fault, but the set was driven differently as she got back the break. Blistering winners on Bianca’s serve, finally on fourth the break point, Serena shot a forehand which chipped the net cord for a 2-1 scoreline.

With Williams losing track on her serve, Bianca Andreescu led by 3-1.

Bianca raced to take a 5-1 lead in the set and boarded to serve for the Grand Slam title. Andreescu faced two championship points, but the warrior Serena kept the action alive at 5-2 by breaking her serve.

Later, Serena held her serve to 15 and prevailed in the US Open 2019 final. Vintage Serena Williams in the next game emerged, she broke the Canadian to love at 5-4 when she was serving for her maiden Slam title.
